This is my story.

When I arrived in Danang, the airbase went immediately to a red alert due to an enemy rocket attack. Welcome to Vietnam.

Assigned to YFU boats in the Literage division, we delivered cargo up and down the coast of northern South Vietnam. Later, I was assigned TDY to a Special Operations group that didn't exist. The missions we did never happened.

After ten months in Danang, Nixon's Vietnamization program sent me south to Cam Ranh Bay and from there the Freedom Bird brought me back to the world.

Clearly, I express the frustration at being a veteran of a war that nobody wanted. We did our duty the best we were allowed. Whether you agreed or not, you blamed the warrior for the war. It was WRONG then and it is WRONG now! We are a whole generation of military personnel who could not express pride in serving our country. A country we love, but a country that turned its back on us.

Vietnam divided the country in the 60's and 70's, and it still divides it today. Those from the 60's and 70's would just as soon forget that it ever happened. Those of us who served will never forget. We left Vietnam, but Vietnam did not leave us.

Though I live through it every day, thankfully, Vietnam is a distant memory.
